Have you ever done something so incredibly stupid that you question your own intelligence? I certainly have. Many times.
The first time I can remember doing something really stupid was back when I was maybe ten years old. It was bedtime and I was still pretty wound up. I raced downstairs to kiss my parents good night, but when my sock-clad feet hit the linoleum floor, I went flying. I slid all the way into the kitchen and ended up slamming my forehead onto the kitchen counter. Of course, my father raced over to see if I was okay. Since I wasn’t drooling and had no facial tics, there didn’t seem to be any brain damage. I went to bed a little dazed, but otherwise fine.
The next morning, I went downstairs to have some breakfast. My dad was beating some eggs. Suddenly, he stopped. He reached down to the kitchen counter and lifted up a big chunk of tile. “I thought I heard something crack last night.” Apparently, I survived the accident, but the kitchen counter wasn’t so lucky.
explains a lot of things…

7 Safety Tips or a Smivey Abode
1) Linoleum countertops-all corners rounded to at least 1/4 in. radius
2) Maid service instructed to throw away one half the contents of the refrigerator every Friday, starting from back, and more if anything looks like it is developing a personality.
3) Attention should be taken to all power cords and cabling. Favor wireless appliances (e.g. phone, mouse, headphones).
4) coputer should have an internet filter set up to deflect any attempt to read real news to ET and USA Today.
5) Bicycle storage should be provided out of sight so it will not awaken pangs-of-guilt.
6) All mirrors should show no more than face and neck, and lighting around mirrors should be incandescent and of low wattage.
7) Ideally all rooms, but at least the bedroom should have padded fabric wall treatment, both as a safety measure and in consideration of the neighbors.
i stuck my finger in an empty lightbulb socket once. and it fried me, so i did it again to make sure it wasn’t just a coincidence.
Yes, it does, bhw.
Thanks for the tips, Edith. I’ll keep them in mind. By the way, I’ve yet to ride the bike.
Kris, it still could’ve been a coincidence. Better check again, just to be safe.
