A Good Ol’ Fashioned Rant

We interrupt the amusing text to bring you this special bulletin: DVD Previews Suck. Has anyone else experienced these? You just bought a DVD of your favorite film. You pop it into the player and it immediately starts running these previews of movies coming out in the future. You try to hit the DVD Menu button, but it’s been disabled. You try to hit the Chapter Forward button. It’s also been disabled. The only way to get through all the damn previews is to Fast Forward through them. What the fuck? I mean, I can maybe understand having the mandatory previews on a DVD that you’re renting, but to have to go through them every time you want to watch a movie that you actually own? Well, that just fucking sucks.

    that’s the worst. i was noticing that same thing the other day. i was thinking the DVD guys were getting jipped (sp) out of all that “free” advertising when they let us skip the previews, not like the good old days with VHS. Guess they figured a way around it. Kind of like the shmucks who make us sit through 60 second friggin commercials at our $8 movie, we get enough at home.

    I’ll tell you: no booklet in the Big Fish DVD. WTF??? Where’s my extra pictures? Where’s my design–my chapter titles???

    control. the bastards are abusing the very technology that’s supposed to free us.

    the way I see it? there’s a bustling business to be had by the guy(s)/gal(s) who invent the box that obliterates the inability to leapfrog all the shit straight to the good stuff.

    They weren’t doing that in the beginning. First, there was just the movie. Then the previews with the ability to FF. Now, you’ve got their middle finger up your ass but good.

    ciance, I haven’t experienced the DVDs that don’t allow you to at least fast forward through the previews. Do they have those? That would suck. I’m thinking about trying copy some of my DVDs specifically to remove the previews from them. I’ll let you know if it works.
